Shpriken

Most of my work with clay has been based on the platonic solids and my alteration of those forms. In experimenting with additions to them and various carving techniques I explore the expressions that can be drawn out of cold geometric shapes and abstract designs.
Recently I've been using slip-casting and press moulds of doll pieces to further bring personality to these shapes. Some of my pieces function as boxes or reliquaries while others can be used as candle holders bringing the element of inner light to the sculpture.
Though some of my work is in low fire earthenware the majority of it is raku utilizing various alternative forms of firing such as ferric chloride fuming, alcohol reduction and saggars.
